Built for Northern Utah's Conditions

There's a version of landscaping that looks great on install day and starts showing its age within two winters. And then there's what EC Scaping does. We build outdoor spaces specifically engineered for Utah's climate — the freeze-thaw cycles that crack inferior concrete, the spring runoff that undermines improperly graded hardscape, the summer UV that fades cheaper paver finishes. Everything we specify, every base we prepare, every joint we fill is chosen with the long game in mind.

We don't subcontract our core work. The crew that shows up on day one is the crew that sees your project through to completion — experienced tradesmen who take genuine pride in the quality of what they leave behind. That continuity matters. It's the difference between a project that gets handed off between strangers and one where everyone on site knows the plan, knows the client, and knows what the finished product is supposed to look like.

Paver Patios & Outdoor Living

A paver patio is the single highest-return investment most homeowners make in their outdoor space — both in terms of daily enjoyment and long-term property value. Done right, a paver installation adds a room to your home that doesn't require a building permit, doesn't depreciate, and holds its color and structural integrity for decades. Done wrong, it settles unevenly, grows weeds through the joints, and becomes an expensive eyesore within a few years.

The difference is almost entirely in the base preparation. Before a single paver is set, we excavate to proper depth, install a compacted road base, add a bedding sand layer graded to precise tolerances, and check for drainage at every step. This is the work clients never see but always feel — in the way the surface stays flat year after year, in the way water sheds cleanly instead of pooling, in the way the pattern stays tight instead of heaving when the ground freezes.

Our paver work spans everything from intimate courtyard patios and decorative front-entry walkways to large-scale pool surrounds, multi-level entertainment decks, fire pit seating areas with built-in curved walls, and full driveway replacements in premium paver systems. We work with every major paver manufacturer and can match virtually any aesthetic — from rustic tumbled travertine to sharp large-format modern slabs. If you've seen something you love, bring us a photo. Chances are we've done something similar, or can.

Retaining Walls & Terracing

Sloped lots in Northern Utah are common, and the way they're handled separates properties that feel cramped and difficult from properties that feel expansive and intentional. A well-designed retaining wall system doesn't just hold back soil — it creates usable outdoor square footage that would otherwise be impossible, frames views, defines outdoor rooms, and gives a property a sense of architectural permanence that you simply can't achieve with soft landscaping alone.

We engineer retaining wall solutions across a wide range of applications and materials. For residential projects, our most common systems include interlocking concrete block (Allan Block and similar), natural and tumbled stone, poured concrete with decorative face finishes, and CMU (concrete masonry unit) block with stone veneer. For steeper grades or walls over four feet, we work with licensed engineers to ensure the system is properly designed for lateral soil pressure and drainage — because a retaining wall that fails isn't just an aesthetic problem; it's a structural one.

Some of our most satisfying projects have started with a homeowner who thought their hillside lot was a liability. After terracing, those same lots become the most dramatic outdoor spaces in the neighborhood — multi-level gardens, elevated patios with unobstructed views, naturalistic boulderscaping that looks like it was always there. Northern Utah's terrain rewards this kind of thinking, and we've had the privilege of executing it on properties throughout Weber and Davis counties.

Concrete Driveways, Patios & Flatwork

Concrete is the most durable and cost-effective hardscape surface available, and it's one of the few materials where the quality difference between contractors is immediately visible — not just years later. Proper mix design, correct water-cement ratio, adequate reinforcement, properly spaced control joints, and skilled finishing all contribute to a slab that stays smooth, resists cracking, and looks sharp for twenty years. Shortcuts on any of these produce a slab that looks fine in month one and starts showing its problems in year two.

We pour driveways, patios, sidewalks, RV pads, garage aprons, steps, and decorative flatwork throughout Northern Utah. Our standard residential driveway includes a properly compacted subbase, rebar or fiber reinforcement, quality-controlled concrete from a certified batch plant, and a broom finish that provides traction without looking industrial. For clients who want more visual interest, we offer scored patterns, exposed aggregate, stamped concrete in a range of textures, and colored concrete in dozens of pigment options.

Utah winters are hard on concrete, and we account for that in our specifications. We adjust mix designs seasonally, use air-entraining admixtures that improve freeze-thaw resistance, and time our pours to avoid temperature extremes that compromise curing. We also handle demo and removal of existing slabs — full excavation, disposal, and grade preparation before the new pour begins. Whether you're replacing a crumbling driveway or adding a new outdoor living space from scratch, we bring the same attention to process to every flatwork project.

Landscape Design & Installation

Hardscape is the bones of a great outdoor space; landscape is the soul. Planting design, sod installation, irrigation, boulderscaping, mulch beds, edging — these are the elements that soften a project, give it color and texture, and make it feel like a place rather than a surface. We approach landscape installation the same way we approach hardscape: with proper preparation, quality materials, and honest execution.

Utah's climate demands plants that are adapted to dry summers and cold winters, and our plant selections reflect that reality. We work primarily with drought-tolerant species that thrive on the Wasatch Front — ornamental grasses, native perennials, flowering shrubs, and trees selected for both visual impact and long-term survivability. For clients who want more traditional lawn areas, we install premium sod with proper soil preparation and grading to ensure it establishes quickly and stays healthy through dry seasons.

Our landscape design service begins with a site visit where we walk the property with you, assess existing conditions, discuss your goals and aesthetic preferences, and identify any constraints — drainage issues, utility lines, HOA restrictions, privacy needs. From there we develop a design that integrates hardscape and softscape elements into a coherent vision for the entire outdoor space. We don't just pick plants from a catalog; we think about how the space will look and function in every season, in every year.

Commercial Snow Removal

Northern Utah winters are serious business. When a storm rolls in off the Great Salt Lake or drops two feet overnight from a Wasatch front system, the properties that are covered by a professional snow removal contract wake up cleared and ready. The ones that aren't become safety hazards, liability exposure, and headaches for whoever ends up managing them. We run a dedicated commercial snow removal operation that takes that problem off your hands completely.

Our snow removal fleet is equipped with V-plow trucks capable of handling large parking lots, long driveways, and commercial access roads. We service office parks, retail centers, HOA communities, medical facilities, and multi-family residential properties throughout Weber and Davis counties. Seasonal contracts include priority response times, unlimited visits per storm event, and salting and ice management as needed. We're on the road when the storm starts, not after it ends.

  • V-plow fleet for large lots & roads
  • Priority response — we're out in the storm
  • Salting & ice melt application
  • Weber & Davis County coverage
