Why This Investment Matters

Most Backyards in Northern Utah
Are Working Against You

If you've spent summers looking at a concrete slab that's cracked down the middle, a pea gravel area that migrates into the lawn after every rainstorm, or a back door that opens onto dirt and dead grass — you know exactly how much that affects how often you actually use your outdoor space. The problem isn't motivation. It's that the space gives you nothing to work with. A properly designed paver patio changes that equation completely.

Pavers aren't just attractive — they're the most functional hardscape surface you can install in a Utah climate. Individual units absorb and release freeze-thaw stress without cracking the way a monolithic concrete slab does. They drain between joints rather than pooling toward your foundation. They can be lifted and reset if a utility line needs access underneath. And if a single unit ever chips or stains, it can be replaced without touching the rest of the surface. These aren't selling points we invented — they're reasons paver patios are standard in markets like Utah that get real winters.

What changes everything, though, is the design. The difference between a paver patio that gets used every weekend and one that sits empty isn't the material — it's whether the space was designed around how your family actually lives. That means thinking through furniture placement before a single paver goes in. It means building a fire pit at the right height for comfortable conversation. It means a seating wall that's deep enough to actually sit on. This is where EC Scaping's experience shows: we've built hundreds of outdoor spaces in Northern Utah, and we know what makes them work.

Fire Pit Systems &
Seating Wall Combos

Ask any of our clients what they use most and the answer is almost always the fire pit area. It's the outdoor element that actually pulls people outside — after dinner, on cool September evenings, during football season when the air in Ogden turns crisp. We build fire pit patios as complete systems: a generous paver field sized for furniture, a built-in fire pit ring at the right height, a curved seating wall that defines the space and provides permanent seating, and steps connecting to the lawn or garden. The result feels permanent. Built.

Our fire pit installations use gas or wood configurations — you choose. Gas is more popular for convenience and HOA compliance; wood burning delivers the authentic experience that Utah fall evenings call for. Either way, we engineer the fire pit surround with proper non-combustible materials, maintain code-required clearances from structures, and integrate the design with the paver pattern so it looks like it was always meant to be there. Seating walls are typically built to 18–20 inches — standard bench height — with capped paver tops that stay comfortable to sit on and age beautifully.

  • Custom curved or angular designs
  • Gas or wood fire pit configurations
  • 18–20" seating wall with paver cap
  • Integrated steps to lawn level
  • Pattern & color coordination
  • Landscape lighting ready

Luxury Outdoor Living

Pool Decks &
Complete Outdoor Rooms

A pool without the right deck around it looks unfinished. More importantly, it's a safety and practicality issue — wet bare concrete is slippery, ages poorly, and turns ugly fast. Paver pool decks are the upgrade that luxury homes in Kaysville, Farmington, and Ogden Valley are making because the difference in appearance and performance is dramatic. Travertine and large-format concrete pavers stay cooler underfoot than traditional concrete, drain between joints so poolside water disappears rather than skating across the surface, and add a resort quality that photographs beautifully and holds its value.

We approach outdoor rooms holistically: the pool deck connects to the patio area, which connects to a covered structure or pergola, which connects back to the home. Every element is planned together so the space flows rather than looking like it was assembled from separate decisions made different years. If your project includes a pool, an outdoor kitchen zone, a lounging area, and a lawn, we map all of that before we break ground — and we build it as one cohesive design.

  • Travertine & large-format pavers
  • Slip-resistant surface options
  • Linear drain integration
  • Full outdoor room planning
  • Pergola & structure coordination
  • Outdoor kitchen zones

Challenging Terrain Solutions

Hillside Patios &
Terraced Paver Systems

The bench neighborhoods of North Ogden, the hillside lots of Eden, the sloped properties throughout Weber County's east side — these are not obstacles. They are the best canvas for paver work we encounter. A well-designed terraced paver system turns a difficult slope into a series of defined usable levels: a patio level off the back door, a lawn tier below, a garden level further down, connected by wide paver steps that are as beautiful as they are functional. Add low-voltage landscape lighting along the risers and cap stones and the space transforms at night into something genuinely spectacular.

Hillside installations require more engineering than flat projects: retaining wall integration, drainage planning, step rise-to-run calculations for comfortable climbing, and careful base preparation that accounts for water movement down slope. We've built tiered paver systems on grades as steep as 35% — the kind that would terrify a general contractor. This is terrain our crews know well, and the results speak for themselves.

  • Grade & drainage engineering
  • Integrated retaining walls
  • Custom paver step design
  • Low-voltage lighting systems
  • Multiple-tier coordination
  • Erosion control integration

Fire Pit Patios Built for
Northern Utah Evenings

There is a specific moment that Northern Utah homeowners describe after their fire pit patio is finished: the first fall evening when the air turns crisp, someone strikes the igniter, and the whole family ends up outside until midnight without planning to. That is what these spaces do. A fire pit patio with proper seating draws people outdoors in a way that a plain yard never does — and in Utah's compressed outdoor season, from May through October, every evening matters.

Every fire pit system we build is oriented for views when the property allows. Our hillside clients in North Ogden, Ogden Valley, and Pleasant View have sweeping sightlines across the Wasatch Range and the valley floor below. We position seating to look outward as much as inward — so every chair faces something worth seeing. On clear evenings in Weber County, that means the valley lit up at dusk and a mountain ridge going dark against the sky. This is the Northern Utah outdoor living experience done right — and it starts with a paver platform designed to make it happen.

  • Mountain & valley view orientation
  • Gas or wood fire configurations
  • Integrated seating walls & caps
  • Pool deck fire pit combinations
  • Boulder & natural stone accents
  • Landscape lighting coordination

Pathways & Walkways

Paver Walkways & Flagstone
Pathway Systems

The path from the driveway to your front door is the first hardscape every visitor crosses. The walkway from the back door to your patio defines how you move through the property every day. These transitions matter — not just functionally, but in how the whole property feels. A well-designed walkway integrates with surrounding plantings, uses materials that complement your home's exterior, and moves gracefully across grade changes with proper step geometry wherever terrain calls for it.

We install flagstone pathways in sand or mortar with river rock or decomposed granite between irregular pieces — a naturalistic look that improves with age. Grid-pattern paver walkways work beautifully in contemporary properties where clean lines and consistent modules match the architecture. Low-voltage landscape lighting along walkways is one of the highest-return additions we install: it extends evening usability, adds safety on grade changes, and transforms the property's nighttime appearance dramatically. In Northern Utah's long fall and winter months, coming home after dark to a lit path makes a genuine difference in how the property feels.

  • Natural flagstone pathways
  • Grid & pattern paver walkways
  • River rock & DG joint fill
  • Low-voltage pathway lighting
  • Grade transition step design
  • Pergola & entry integration

Why EC Scaping Builds
Patios That Last

01

6-Inch Engineered Base

Most contractors use 2–3 inches of base. We use a minimum 6 inches of compacted class II road base with geotextile fabric barrier. This is what prevents heaving in Utah winters and keeps your patio level for decades, not years.

02

Engineered Drainage Slope

Every paver installation we do maintains a minimum 1/8 inch per foot slope away from structures. We also plan for where that water goes — not just off the patio, but off your property and away from your foundation. This prevents the pooling and erosion that ruins nearby landscaping.

03

Polymeric Sand Jointing

We use polymeric jointing sand on every project. It hardens when wet, bonds the paver units together, resists weed germination, and stays in the joints rather than washing out. It's a step that budget contractors skip. It's a step that determines whether your patio looks new or tired in five years.

04

Edge Restraint System

Without a proper edge restraint, paver fields migrate outward over time — units spread, gaps open, and the perimeter looks ragged. We install commercial-grade edge restraint at every perimeter, spiked at 12-inch intervals, then bury it below grade. You'll never see it; you'll always appreciate it.

05

Utah-Specific Material Knowledge

We know which paver brands hold up to Weber County freeze-thaw cycles and which ones look great in the showroom but spall after two winters. We won't install materials we haven't tested locally. Every product we specify has a track record in this climate.

06

Craftsmanship Guarantee

We back our installations with a written workmanship warranty. If the base settles unevenly, if a section heaves, if a joint fails prematurely due to installation error — we come back and fix it. No argument. This is a relationship, not a transaction.

Serving Northern Utah's Premier Communities

EC Scaping builds paver patios across the full Northern Utah corridor — from the lakeside neighborhoods of Ogden and the tree-lined streets of Layton to the east bench estates of Kaysville and Farmington. We know these communities well because we've built in all of them. North Ogden bench properties with their dramatic valley views have taught us how to design tiered paver systems that turn challenging grades into defining features. Centerville and South Ogden's growing residential corridors are where we see the most first-time paver projects — homeowners who've watched their neighbors' patios and are finally ready to invest in their own.

Further afield, we serve Eden and the Ogden Valley — a market that demands a higher level of design because the properties and the natural surroundings are exceptional. We've built large-format natural stone patios on mountain-view lots in Eden and Huntsville that we're genuinely proud of. We also work in Pleasant View, Roy, Syracuse, and throughout Weber and Davis counties. If you're in Northern Utah, we can most likely help you. Reach out and we'll confirm before you invest time in a consultation.

Thomas and his team from EC Landscaping LLC just finished a project for us at our home in Eden Utah! Our project was small - a concrete pad for our utility trailer, a new front walkway and stairs (replacing the existing paver stones), a beautiful tiered natural stone flower bed and a new stone and masonry mailbox pedestal. Also refreshed some of our existing landscaping with stone borders and natural bark mulch. Thomas worked with us every step of the way and provided samples and ideas. He was receptive to changing the tiered flower bed from a rustic block to natural stone to better fit the rest of the neighborhood. He was professional, knowledgeable and helped us work within our budget. The concrete trailer pad was cracked during construction of the stone flower bed and EC Landscaping replaced the entire pad at no extra charge!
The team on site were the hardest working group ever; they knew what they were doing, answered questions, were friendly and cleaned up daily. They completed the project in 5 days - from demolition to final product. Team lead and stone mason was an artist - the tiered stone flower bed and mailbox pedestal are incredible! Our neighbors have stopped to compliment the work.
My husband and I are thrilled with our beautiful new yard from EC Landscaping!

I was excited when I got home from Spokane and saw my driveway. They did a great job and made it unique. Everything was left clean, and they also redid the sprinklers and brought top soil to put around them and the grass. Love the way you raked the squares in a different direction. I'll make sure and recommend your company especially for the expertise and customer satisfaction you put into it.

EC Landscaping replaced 3 failing retaining walls, made step access to my upper yard, and came up with an idea to give me a raised bed front border for my property in Hyrum. I couldn’t be more pleased. There were two crews who communicated with me, worked long days, cleaned up after themselves, and were kind to my dog.

We would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again for future projects.

We had an amazing experience with EC Landscape & Design. They are hardworking, detail-oriented, and very knowledgeable. Their pricing was fair, and they clearly prioritize quality by using top-tier products.

They provided us with multiple options to choose from, stayed organized throughout the entire process, and delivered excellent results. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Highly recommend this company.

EC was punctual with their scheduling and very upfront regarding not starting the concrete portion of the job until the weather was such that we could ensure proper setting time. They also helped me solve some challenging drainage issues throughout my landscaping project. They were able to get a shorter than standard custom gate to match my existing fence and mount it. They connected me with a reasonable curbing company since they did not have the machine to lay custom curbing. I had several bids but EC gave me the most detail in their bid to help ensure there were no surprises with the final invoice. I would definitely consider EC for any future jobs.

Paver Patio Questions Answered

Paver patio installation in Northern Utah typically ranges from $18 to $45 per square foot depending on material choice, design complexity, site access, and whether elements like a fire pit or seating wall are included. A 400 sq ft concrete paver patio with a fire pit area typically runs $10,000–$18,000. Large-format natural stone or travertine projects with seating walls and lighting start higher. We provide exact quotes after a free on-site consultation — no ballparks, no surprises.

Most residential paver patio projects take 3 to 7 business days. A standard 400 sq ft patio with a fire pit area typically takes 4–5 days. Larger projects with seating walls, steps, lighting, and multiple levels run 1–2 weeks. We give you a realistic timeline before we start and don't leave your project in the middle to go work on someone else's — we finish what we start.

Yes — when properly installed. The freeze-thaw cycle is what ruins cheap installations: inadequate base compresses, heaves in winter, and individual units rock or tip. Our 6-inch engineered base with geotextile fabric and proper drainage slope eliminates this problem. Our paver installations across Weber County have been through years of harsh winters without the issues that plague cheaper projects. The material itself — concrete or natural stone — is rated for Utah's climate.

Both have a place, but pavers offer meaningful advantages in Utah: individual units can be replaced if one cracks; the joint system allows water to drain rather than pooling; the aesthetic range is vastly wider; and freeze-thaw cycles affect paver fields less dramatically than monolithic slabs. Concrete is typically less expensive upfront and there are situations where it's the right call — we do plenty of concrete work too. For a premium outdoor living space, pavers almost always win on appearance, durability, and long-term value.

We work with concrete pavers in standard and large-format sizes, travertine, natural limestone, and permeable pavers. Pattern options include running bond, herringbone, basket weave, diagonal, random ashlar, and custom combinations. We bring samples to your consultation and walk through what works with your home's architecture, your preferred color palette, and your maintenance preferences.

Most paver patio projects in Northern Utah do not require a permit. Projects that include retaining walls over 4 feet, structural elements, gas line connections, or certain electrical work may require permits depending on your city or county. We review permit requirements for every project and handle the filing if needed — that's included in our quote, not an add-on.

Within one business day, someone from our team reaches out to schedule a free on-site consultation — typically within 3–5 days of your inquiry. We come to your property, walk the space with you, listen to what you're envisioning, and take measurements. Within 48–72 hours you receive a detailed written estimate. If you approve the estimate, we schedule your project and get you on the calendar. Most projects start within 2–4 weeks of approval depending on season.
