Rural Utah properties with big terrain — outdoor living built to fit.
Mantua sits in Box Elder County just south of Brigham City, tucked against the Wellsville Mountains with Mantua Reservoir at the center of the valley. Morgan sits east of Ogden along I-84, in a narrow valley where the Weber River runs through and the terrain goes steep in every direction. Both communities are small, rural in character, and full of homeowners who have chosen to live in the mountains on purpose. That outdoor lifestyle deserves outdoor spaces built to match it.
We get called to Mantua and Morgan for the kind of projects that require real site experience — hillside retaining walls on steep rocky grades, patio installations where the equipment has to be staged carefully due to site access, landscape work on rural lots with irrigation systems that predate any standard grid. These aren't urban suburb jobs where everything is flat and accessible. They require a crew that adapts.
What we build most in these communities is practical mountain hardscape: retaining walls that hold slopes and create usable yard space, concrete or paver patios where you can sit and actually see the mountains you moved here for, driveway work in concrete or compacted gravel that handles the grade changes on rural properties. The aesthetic in these communities tends toward the natural — boulder walls over concrete block, local stone accents, plantings that belong in the landscape rather than contrasting with it.
Access is often the main planning consideration in Mantua and Morgan. Narrow canyon roads, steep driveways, and limited staging areas mean we think carefully about equipment before mobilizing. In some cases a job requires smaller equipment, longer material runs, or phased staging. We account for that in the planning and pricing, not as a mid-project surprise.

Mantua's terrain is defined by the Wellsville Mountains to the west and Box Elder Creek to the east — the valley floor is relatively flat but the transition to hillside is abrupt. Morgan County's terrain is almost entirely steep, with the Weber River canyon defining the valley floor and ridge lines rising sharply on both sides. Soil in both areas is rocky with significant ledge rock at relatively shallow depth in many locations. We factor rock excavation into any project estimate after an honest site assessment.
EC Scaping is based in Hooper, Utah — right in the middle of the Weber-Davis County market we serve. We\'re not a Salt Lake City contractor stretching north to fill capacity. Mantua & Morgan is our territory, and we\'ve built enough projects here to know what works and what doesn\'t in this specific environment.
Over a decade of building in Northern Utah's freeze-thaw climate. We spec base depth, drainage, and materials for where we are, not a generic national standard.
We price jobs accurately the first time. What we quote is what you pay — no low-ball bids followed by change orders that get you where they planned to be all along.
Utah contractor's license, full general liability, and workers' comp on every project. Our credentials are available on request before any contract is signed.
We work throughout Mantua & Morgan and the surrounding Box Elder / Morgan County communities. If you don't see your neighborhood listed, call us — our service area extends throughout the region.
Yes. Both communities are within our extended service area. Mantua is about 45 minutes north of our base in Hooper; Morgan is about 30 minutes east on I-84. We schedule projects in both areas regularly and account for travel in our project pricing.
Yes, but it requires advance planning. We assess access during the site visit and spec the equipment that can actually get to the site. In some cases, smaller equipment and more man-hours replaces larger equipment that can't fit on a tight rural property. We give you an honest picture of what access means for cost and schedule.
Boulder walls are often the most practical choice on rocky hillsides because the material is consistent with the site and the installation process works with the existing rock rather than against it. For taller walls with engineering requirements, concrete block gives you the precision to meet structural specs. We assess your specific site and recommend accordingly.
Yes. Rural driveways on steep grades require careful grading, proper compaction, and appropriate surface material — compacted gravel works well for lower-traffic driveways; concrete with scoring for traction handles steep paved approaches. We assess grade, drainage, and traffic load before recommending the right approach.
Yes. We work with species appropriate to the elevation and climate — zone 4-5 plants that handle the cold in both communities, drought-tolerant selections for sites with limited irrigation, and plants that look like they belong in a mountain valley landscape. No tropical plants that survive one summer.
Call us or use the contact form on this page to schedule a site visit. We'll come out, assess the site, and provide a detailed written estimate. For Morgan County projects, we typically schedule site visits in clusters when we have other activity in the I-84 corridor.
